About Me

London, United Kingdom
This blog is neither trendy or exclusive. It is a record of the creative efforts made by two equally extravagant but ever so different sisters in their attempt to gather up the pieces of their relationship. So far this has included Tom&Jerry cakes, hand made skirts, late night phone calls, silhouette portraits, documenting scenic walks, hospital rooms and many, many illustrated letters. Like all things worthwhile this journey is undoubtedly going to be long. And loud. And colourful. And blissfully exhausting, but we hope that you'll come along, or at least watch from a distance as we serve up the fruits of our joys and frustrations each Sunday until death do us part. Or until we grow out of puberty and realize we were being irrational and really just want to be accountants.

Week 8

Hey chicks!
Well we've finally decided to stop being so reserved and told someone other than our mum about the blog and so far so good. No hate mail. No fiery crosses outside the house. No pedos inviting us to dinner, so thanks for checking it out and keep up the feedback and in return we will keep dishing up the best of what the week has offered.
Boomshanka!

Dress created by the lovely Miss Ginny with a needle, a thread and some old material from Grandma. Oh and a lot of patience.

This week we love...

Angus and Julia Stone- Down the Way

As the brother-sister duo prove with this second album, it is sometimes possible to push a good thing one step further without ruining it all. Both melancholic and relaxed it's easy listening but not without interest, reminding us that simplicity sometimes really is the best thing. 'For You' has to be our personal favourite although Julia's vocals are stunning in 'And the Boys' while the film clip for 'Big Jet Plane' pretty much sums up the album. Romantic but just a little bit bleak.

Le Concert- Radu Mihaileanu

Once the world famous 'Maestro' Andrei Filipov is now the dejected janitor of the Bolshoi, the Moscow opera house he used to direct. He spends his days cleaning and being hounded out of rehearsals but through a stroke of luck and a lot of Slavic passion he winds up impersonating the Bolshoi Orchestra for a one night stint at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. At times hilarious, others plainly frustrating the troupe of make-shift musicians will probably make you hope to never have to deal with Russians in your life, but they'll also leave you with a craving for passion, to be the best at something. And that can't really be a bad thing can it?

Primrose Hill Bakery- 69 Gloucester Avenue, London NW1 8LD

Not realizing that this was the company which catered for both London Fashion Week and Elton John's birthday, we wandered into Primrose Hill Bakery thinking we'd discovered a little unappreciated patch of paradise. The cafe was occupied but not busy and girly without the in-your-face hype of a lot of cupcake shops around town. After enjoying chocolate and marshmellow cupcakes accompanied by glasses of cold milk we had a chat with a certain lovely waitress and found out that the shop was set up by two yummy house mummies and to this day remains an independent enterprise with each cake made in the kitchen below the cafe. Sweet but definitely not sickly, it's a nust if you're in the area and in need of a quiet moment and a catch up.

Nearby- Primrose Hill, London Zoo and the wonder that is Regent's Park.

Also...'The Book Thief' by Markus Zusak. So bitter sweet.

Week 7

Hey chicks!
Well its Sunday evening again, and we've just pawned most of our worldy posessions at Brick Lane for less than a trip to the restaurant, but we are feeling fine. More than fine in fact, because while the year is drawing to an end and we may not have all that much to show for it, we feel very grown up. And wise. And as confident as we'll ever be. So the future is looking bright we'd say.

no comment.

This week we love...

Soviet Kitsch-Regina Spektor
Lovely Jewish lady/Child refugee
from Soviet Russia?
Soviet theme?
Lovely songs like 'Someday' and 'Us'?
On NME's 100 Greatest albums of the decade?
Need we really say anymore?

The Life of Others-Florian Henckelvon Donversmarck

Set in East Berlin in 1984, the film follows Gerd Wieler, captain of the Stasi as he spies on playwright and suspected enemy of the state Geory Dreyman. As the film progresses Wieler becomes more and more involved in the artists life and as Dreyman unconsiously opens a whole new world of beauty and passion to the officer.
He in turn finds himself taking huge risks to protect his target.A sad but poetic film with a beautiful ending.

The British Library

As we write this we are munching on a classic BLT on whole loaf and sipping from mugs that look uncanily like coffee beans and may we say: we're very impressed.
Unlike most major sites in London, the British Library has resisted the urge to rip off visitors and created a spot that is both interesting and unpretentious. The current 'Magnificent Maps' exhibition is absolutly wonderful. Our personal favourites being S.Walters 'The Island' and the sea creatures on the italian maps,
but if you're there we suggest you drop by the Sir John Ritblat Gallery to see Charles Dodgson's handwritten copy of Alice in Wonderland.

Oh and its all free

Also...

Getting three brilliant books for £6 at Fopp. And having the lovely salesman recommend Nelson Mandela's book of african fairytales.
You know, if you're into that sort of thing.

Week 6

Oh oh spaghettio!
After a week of giggling, Morrisons' bargain bin DVDs and banana duels (the less said the better) we are super sleepy but feeling grand. These last 7 days have marked the first week of our full-on cohabitation and in honour of that fact we have a line up of horrendously girly things in store. Enjoy.

Seeing as Bastille Day is fast approaching we decided to create our very own Marie Antoinette. And no this doesn't make us bourgeois pigs, we just like her hair. Thank you Fran for letting us put a ball of twine on your head and icing sugar on your face. You are a trooper.

This week we love...

Ben Kweller- Self-titled
Everything's big in Texas, including this dude's hair. Oh and his talent. Summery tunes to put a stride in your step and a smile on your face, most of Mr Kweller's songs will leave you feeling up-beat but there are a couple of sad ones to mooch around to as well. No complaints really.

The Heartbreaker- Pascal Chaumeil
The first French romantic comedy I've ever seen and while the story line is ridiculous and there's more than a few cheesy moments, I like it. Only French humour can be this crude although I'm worried a lot of it will be lost in translation so don't hesitate to watch it with subtitles and enjoy oogling Ms Paradis' wardrobe.

Getting the most wonderful surprise, and walking down Oxford Street feeling like a lady.

Week 5

Hey chicks!
Despite the council tax people hounding us and being summoned to court, we've had a super busy week showing a certain foreign exchange student around good old London Town. We've had a great time and hope you enjoy our diagram of events as seen across the bedroom windows. Oh and if ever you're near Piccadilly Circus try to catch the old Number 9 bus to the Royal Albert Hall. You have to jump on at the back and buy your ticket from the ticket man and it's downright amazing. Boomshanka.

This week we love...

For Emma, Forever Ago- Bon Iver

These songs will make your heart swell in your chest until you feel lie crying with a smile on your face. Or squeezing the life out of that one person so they know that they're all that's best in you. Made for an emotional train ride rather than an afternoon at the beach.

Hot Fuzz- Edgar Wright

So we know you've probably already seen this but WATCH IT AGAIN. This shit is funny, really, very funny. And if you haven't seen it, it's an action movie spoof that'll give you a 6 pack from giggling. Jog on!

Also...
This just made us so happy.

Week 4

Good evening, Pinny and Elly here reporting live from the tent. After a botched up attempt at joining the clean up team for Glastonbury (whole experience including a 3 hour walk from the station to the grounds, sleeping in an abandoned tent, making pizza dough with hippies and laughing at the crazies playing flutes in the field), we are back in London and ignoring the fact that we're not Oprah-rich in our very own festival ground. See below. Oh and take care.

dirty sheets.
string.
childhood quilt.
tea candles.
ipod.
fuck yes.

This week we love...

White Moth- Xavier Rudd

The sunshine has made us hopelessly homesick for Australia and this lovely gentleman has taken us right back to balmy evenings, casual racism and great friends Thank you Mr Rudd!

The Royal Tenenbaums- Wes Anderson

Despite the all-star cast (Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow) this is the kookiest film I've seen in a long time. Think family drama with Amelie Poulain's charming way of picking out each characters eccentricities and laying them out matter of factly. We think you'll fall a little bit in love with Luke Wilson's character. And Gwyneth Paltrow's coat.
